Teens accused of shooting out windows get ARD

Three teens accused of shooting out vehicle windows with a slingshot were placed into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for two years on Thursday. Twin brothers Kenneth and Kevin Yarasavich of Larksville, as well as Nicholas Elko of Courtdale, all 19, were ordered into the program by Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III.

A Pringle man stabbed another man in the back Sunday night before fleeing the scene in his girlfriend’s car, police said. James Harris, 46, approached Joseph Dominguez on North Sherman Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday and started fighting with Dominguez, accusing him of “disrespecting him,” according to a criminal complaint.

James Harris, 46, of Pringle is accused of stabbing another man during a fight around 11:30 p.m. on North Sherman Street in the city. Investigators say Harris took off after the stabbing but officers caught up with him in Pringle.

A Pringle family was displaced Friday morning when their Grove Street home caught fire. The fire broke out around 11 a.m. at 475 Grove St., causing heavy damage to the home and displacing a family of five, said Kingston Fire Chief Frank Guido.

A drunken driver whose passenger died in a crash in Pringle last year was sentenced Monday to serve up to eight years in state prison. John Payne, 56, of Luzerne, was ordered imprisoned for four to eight years in prison for the January 2015 crash that killed Kevin Sendrick of Swoyersville.

W-B Area career center to study feasibility of having students stay there longer

The Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical School’s governing board voted Monday to study a proposal to alter how frequently students go the vocational school. Students currently spend half of the school day at the vocational school in Plains Township and half the day at their home school.

A woman was shot Tuesday afternoon in a home on Grove Street, sparking a manhunt by multiple police departments and a brief lockdown of schools in the area. Four men were taken into custody at Hilltop Apartments on Roosevelt Street in Edwardsville shortly before 4 p.m., about two hours after the shooting.

Four teens face felony charges after police allege they shot out the windows of vehicles in multiple locations in the West Side and Back Mountain with marbles fired from a slingshot. A man accused of repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend struck her with a car and stabbed her friend in Kingston before killing himself Wednesday morning, police said. Melvin Eltora, 46, of Clarks Summit was found dead in the driver’s seat of a blue Oldsmobile Alero outside Gerrity’s Supermarket in Pringle.
